Welcome to Buxton Jazz.<\/strong> Following the success in 2025 of our ‘Jazz ‘n’ Blues @ The Junction nights at High Peak Bookstore and Caf\u00e9, we are excited in 2026 to bring Jazz into the heart of Buxton from our new venue: ‘The Old Club House’, which is at 1 Water Street, SK17 6XN.
We continue to present a high standard in all styles of jazz-influenced music, including Bebop, Cool, Gypsy, Latin, Mainstream, New Orleans, Blues and more. If you love live music as much as we do this is the place for you. We’re in a dedicated space on the first floor, upstairs from the main entrance on Water Street, just across from Buxton Opera House.
This traditional pub servers food from 11am until 9pm, so why not enjoy a meal before the music.
Doors open for Jazz at 7pm, support acts when presented start at 7.30. The main event begins at 8.15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jake Leg Jug Band – joined for this occasion by Thomas ‘Spats’ Langham, brings you the authentic sounds of 1920s and 30s America \u2013 jazz, blues, ragtime and gospel: songs of murder, gambling, liquor and redemption. They deliver a live show that guarantees old-fashioned, feel-good entertainment, transporting the audience back in time to the prohibition era with a sound and look refined through 14 years on the road, performing nearly 800 gigs and releasing 10 albums \u2013 receiving airplay on BBC Radio 2 and Jazz FM. Thomas Langham grew up in Buxton, and has travelled worldwide as a professional musician, playing with many great artists and bands. He played to a packed house for us last December with his ‘Hot Fingers Trio, so we’re delighted he has returned accompanying Jake Leg Jug Band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABOUT BUXTON JAZZ<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Buxton Jazz delivers regular sessions on the third Wednesday of every month<\/strong>. Join us for live music featuring a mix of local, national, and occasionally international bands, duos and soloists from the world of Jazz and Blues.
Doors open at 7.00pm for our music events. This year we’re delighted to present supporting acts starting at 7.30pm, with the main event from 8.15pm.

This talented quartet features sax, flute and clarinet player John Sanderson, with vocalist Sue Benson, bassist Reg Clegg and guitarist Carl Smith. John has played with many of Britain’s top jazz performers including: Jim Mullen and Don Weller. He has also backed a host of US soul artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guitar Legend John Etheridge brings his solo guitar guitar show to Buxton Jazz. His career includes long associations with Soft Machine, St\u00e9phane Grappelli, John Williams, Nigel Kennedy, Andy Summers; as well as appearances with Dizzy Gillespie, Hawkwind, Yehudi Menuhin and more. John was recently given a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Worshipful Company of Musicians<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special Buxton Festival Fringe event featuring probably the most exciting and acclaimed jazz violinist in the UK. Classically trained from the age of six, Ben’s introduction to Jazz came in his early teens through greats such as Benny Goodman, Oscar Peterson and St\u00e9phane Grappelli. Ben possesses an inate sense of swing rhythm, breathtaking technical ability and true showmanship on stage. Expect an evening flowing with energy and bursting with personality. This will almost certainly be a sell-out event, so we recommend early booking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
